Eat Healthy Diet

I first learned that I have high blood pressure or hypertension at the age of 37. According to my doctor I already had hypertension many year ago only I don't know it. Well, maybe because I'm so busy with my work and did not monitor my blood pressure. This kind of illness is what we called hereditary. It comes from my father and relatives. According to the book that I read, one out of two develops high blood pressure by the age of sixty five. The exact cause of high blood pressure which doctors call hypertension is unknown. But there is much you can do to lower your risk of developing it or to keep it under control if you've been told you have it. Diet plays a key role. Salt has been blamed for raising blood pressure in many people especially if we are overweight. Weight gain from overeating is another risk factor that's why we have to control from eating too much. Heavy drinking can also lead to high blood pressure.

We all know that hypertension can damage the heart and blood vessels. It is beneficial to eat a heart healthy diet that is moderate in calories, low in unhealthy saturated and trans fats and rich in low fat dairy products and high fiber foods especially vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes. Always remember if you are overweight, losing as little as 5 or 10 pounds can lower your blood pressure.
